I Did It Alone
There’s a kind of courage we don’t talk about enough.
The quiet kind.
The kind that doesn’t come with applause… or support… or even understanding.
Just a decision.
In today’s Courage Conversation, I sat with Rev. Evelyn Bourne (Ambilike) as she shared the moment she chose to leave behind a life of restriction and step into the unknown.
She didn’t have a traditional path.
She didn’t have guidance.
She didn’t have support.
What she had… was determination.
She got her GED.
Created a plan.
Saved her money.
Packed her car…
…and drove herself to college.
Alone.
And somewhere between fear and freedom, she discovered something powerful:
When you put your mind to it… you can build a life on your own terms.
But she also shared something just as important—
If she could do it again, she would find support.
Not just financial…
but emotional… mental… spiritual.
Because courage doesn’t mean you have to suffer alone.
It means you move forward… anyway.
✨ Her words stayed with me:
“It’s going to end better than you think… so don’t give up.”

If you’re in a season where you know you can’t stay where you are…
This is your reminder:
You can begin again.
Without apology.
